Remember the milk launch gadget for Google Calendar

Remember the milk has just launched a new gadget for the Google Calendar sidebar. With the previous version you had click a checkmark icon to bring up your tasks. However, now there is no need, the tasks are instantly displayed in the sidebar. The combination of Remember the milk and Google Calendar is certainly an appealing feature.

Twitter have stopped asking ‘What are you doing?’ and are now asking ‘What’s Happening?’ instead. Twitter say this reflects the shift in usage of tweets from Personal updates about what you’re doing to updates from websites and companies as well.

Twitter adds Retweeting to the Web!

It seems twitter clients have evolved faster than twitter itself! However, this evening twitter has made available the new feature of “retweeting”, which has been around for desktop clients for some time. This allows any user to post what another user has said, just by clicking on the retweet button. It also adds a new function to your timeline, where you can see where users retweets came from. This was a well needed addition to the twitter website, but was delayed due to the increase in amounts of tweets it would cause.

Google Translate adds speech and real time translation

Google have added 3 new features to their translation service today; Translate instantly, which translates your text as you type it (as you can see in our image), text to speech, which allows you to listen to any translated phrase and ‘Romanization’, allowing you to read translations in languages with non-roman characters. Firefox Personas Updated

Orange UK adds twitter SMS

Orange have now joined Vodafone and o2 in offering the Twitter SMS service (Try it out texting ‘START’ to 86444, charges may apply). An extra feature that Orange have added however is the ability to send photos to twitter using MMS. This is made possible through Orange’s photo service called Snapshot. They give the following instructions on how to use it:

Take a photo on your Orange mobile phone
Select ‘Send via MMS’ or ‘Send multimedia message’
Send it to 8644

Google Wave adds Follow/Unfollow

One of my favourite features of wave, is searching for waves (with : public). The only problem with this is as soon as you click on one of the public waves, your wave account becomes crowded with all the public updates. Google have added a feature to wave however, which allows you to ‘unfollow’ a wave. Google give the following advice…

Here’s how following works: When someone adds you directly to a wave, or if you contribute to a wave, you will automatically be following that wave. When you see a public wave that you would like to get updates on, you can chose to follow it by hitting the follow button in the wave panel toolbar. You can remove these waves from your inbox by hitting the “archive” button, but when there is an update they will pop back in. You can switch between following and unfollowing a wave as much and as often as you like.

Facebook Adds Auto Face tagging

Face.Com have today launched Photo Tagger to the public. Like Picasa and iPhoto, it automates face tagging of photos. Facebook users can use Photo Tagger to automatically tag their photos, using facial recognition software to tag all of the photos in an album.

When you select an album, it groups together faces and suggests tags for them. It also constantly monitors new photos you add with its Face Alerts system, alerting you when it detects new, untagged photos of you or your friends.

Personally, I am a big fan of this feature in Picasa, and can’t wait to try Photo Tagger out on Facebook.

Vimeo are today launching an iPod Touch / iPhone / Android friendly version of their site. However only the Staff Picks and HD Video Showcase videos are currently re-encoded for the mobile site.

In the next few weeks Vimeo hope to start offering Plus users the option to transcode their videos for the mobile site. Vimeo are still facing stiff competition from YouTube however, who transcode all videos uploaded into iPhone friendly versions automatically.

The new feature should be available now, so go try it out!
